He was born on 29/9/1963 in Beirut graduated from the Higher Institute of Political Science at Damascus University in 1985 and obtained a master’s degree from the Faculty of Islamic Sciences (Diplomacy in Islam) From the University of Hamdard in India and continued his studies to obtain a doctorate in political science from the University of Hamdard in 2008. Dr. Riyad Abbas was appointed Ambassador to the Republic of India in 2011, after serving as Director of the Consular Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, At the Syrian Embassy in New Delhi in 2003-2004. He served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Syrian Embassy in North Korea from 1995 to 2000 and also served as Security Director, Deputy Director of the Arab World Department and Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Oversight at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994. He has been working tirelessly towards peace and progress of Syria.
